Iraqi police say a television news reporter has been shot to death in the northern city of Mosul.
Officials say Muhieddin Abdul-Hamid was gunned down Tuesday near his home. He was a local anchor for the state-run television station in Mosul.
Reuters news service quotes one of his colleagues as saying Abdul-Hamid and his co-workers had received death threats.
Mosul is the base for security operations against al-Qaida in Iraq.
The Committee to Protect Journalists says Iraq is the deadliest country in the world for journalists. The organization has put the number of journalist deaths near 130 since U.S. forces invaded the country five years ago. It says 50 media support workers have also been killed since the war began in March of 2003.
