The U.S. government plans to warn 7,000 businesses in the United States they are considered high-risk terrorist targets because they house large amounts of chemicals.
The Department of Homeland Security said that for security reasons it will not reveal the list of businesses, but they include chemical plants, universities, hospitals, and oil and gas production sites.
The agency compiled the list after reviewing information from about 32,000 facilities nationwide.
The department said the businesses will have to complete a vulnerability assessment so the government can decide how best to regulate security measures for each facility.
Eventually, federal inspectors will visit the highest risk sites to make sure enhanced security measures are in place.
