The deaths of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan have exceeded the death toll in Iraq for the month of June.
According to icasualties.org, a web site that tracks American casualty figures, June accounted for more than 40 percent of the 122 deaths of foreign soldiers in Afghanistan in 2008.
In Iraq, at least 31 international soldiers died in June, including 29 Americans. There are more than twice as many troops in Iraq as in Afghanistan.
The five-year-old war in Iraq has claimed the lives of more than 4,000 American soldiers.
