ISTANBUL - Turkish Daily News

Real Betis has agreed to sign Turkish midfielder of Brazilian origins, Mehmet Aurelio, the Spanish club declared on their Web site (Real Betis Balompié - Página principal). The 30-year-old defensive midfielder was out of contract and signed to Betis on a free transfer. Aurelio gained Turkish citizenship and became the first non-Turkish born player to represent the national side in 2006, while he was playing for Fenerbahçe, where he enjoyed three league titles. Speaking to the reporters after passing the medical tests, Aurelio said that he loved Fenerbahçe, but it was a professional decision. I have friends at Fenerbahçe and I am in love with Turkey, and nothing will change that, he said. I had no problems with Fenerbahçe but Betis' offer was better.
