ANKARA – Turkish Daily News

A total of 22 terrorists, including a high-ranking member of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, were killed during a four-day operation in the terrorists' hideout near the Iraqi border, the military said in a written statement yesterday.
The chief of General Staff said the operation took place from July 11-14, targeting a group of PKK terrorists who were preparing attacks in the İncebel Mountains in the southeastern province of Şırnak. Air strikes hit the camp, followed by helicopter gunship and artillery fire, the statement said. Ground troops later destroyed the camp and seized weapons and ammunition, it added.
The statement said the terrorist casualties included a high-ranking member, but gave no further details. The General Staff had put the death toll of the operation at eight on Monday. Turkey has stepped up military action against the group since December, carrying out air strikes plus a week-long ground incursion into northern Iraq.
