Istanbul – Turkish Daily News
For those who thought the Electronica Festival that took place in Istanbul two weeks ago was this summer's top dance event, this week may cause them to reconsider that opinion. Istanbul, hold on! Bob Sinclar is set to come to town today. The world-renowned French DJ and producer will heat up the night with his full live performance onstage at the Parkorman arena, together with British singer Steve Edwards and American MC Big Ali.
Sinclar started DJing at the age of 18 under the name Chris The French Kiss. At that time, he specialized in funk and hip-hop music; however his first hit single, "Gym Tonic," co-produced with Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk and featuring vocals illegally taken from a Jane Fonda fitness tape, appeared as favorite club tune in 1998.
In the same year, Sinclar deftly moved away from filtered house to more ambitious music, refining his style with each new release. In 2000 came his second album after Paradise, Champs-Élysées. The same year saw the release of a project with disco legend Cerrone, a retrospective of Cerrone's work remixed by Sinclar, which earned him a gold record. Collaborations with Lene Lovich and Alain Wisniak pushed Sinclar to take his music in a different, more adventurous direction, full of intricate arrangements. A breakthrough came with the album III, stuffed full with such hits as The Beat Goes On and Kiss My Eyes. At the same time, Sinclar was working on the Africanism project, an ensemble of house artists and music producers, combining Latin jazz with African and tribal flavors.
Love Generation of the world
The year 2005 brought a tidal wave in the form of the song Love Generation, with 1.2 million singles sold in a few months, making it the summer hymn of the whole world. Another two Bob Sinclar tracks, World, Hold On and Rock this Party, included on his fourth album Western Dream became hits all over the globe. With this release he achieved his goal of making music both sophisticated and popular, and the sound both warm and direct. The voice featured on World, Hold On belongs to Steve Edwards, who will accompany Sinclar in his Istanbul performance.
Sinclar is seen as an artist trying to extend the boundaries of his own music with every new record. He admits that he considers himself a creative person who is always searching for the unexpected, surprising his fans and earning their admiration.
Soundz of Freedom, Sinclar's latest mix compilation, includes new tracks and well-known massive hits. The tunes, produced with Gary Pine, Steve Edwards, Dollarman, Cutee B., Mousse T, Jamie Lewis, Axwell, Guy Schreiner and Erik Kupper -- whom Sinclar contacted personally -- got a brand new twist. The result revealed a number of energetic tracks with an irresistible selection of positive vibes.
Sinclar's own record label, Yellow Productions, is well known to all house music fans for releasing the albums of renowned club scene names such as Dimitri From Paris, Kid Loco and Silent Poet, as well as producing Sinclar's own projects, including Africanism. He also lends his signature to the clothing brand popular among the VIPs, with t-shirts that read Who the fuck is Bob Sinclar?
