The head of the country's hunters association was detained with three of his friends after he was apprehended yesterday catching fish by throwing dynamite into a river in the central Anatolian province of Kayseri.
Cemalettin Bedir and three of his friends were stopped by the gendarmerie, who found 25 kilograms of fish and four sticks of dynamite in the car the group was traveling in.
Reports said the four had caught the fish by throwing the sticks of dynamite into the Zamantı River in the Pınarbaşı region. It was reported that the hunters had acquired the dynamite from a friend who worked in a mine.
All five were sent to court and released pending their trial. If found guilty, they will face a fine per fish they killed.
