Tomasz Majewski of Poland has won the men's shot put with a career best throw of 21.51 meters, upsetting a strong field to claim the first track and field gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. Majewski led the eight men advancing to the last three rounds Friday and then produced his best mark with the next throw - 54 centimeters better than his pre-competition best. Christian Cantwell, the two-time world indoor champion, moved into second place at 21.09 on his final effort - the only American to get a medal in what his team had hoped would be a 1-2-3 U.S. finish. Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus collected bronze at 21.05.
