A commission made up of 80 people from 13 different African countries visited the northwestern province of Balıkesir to inspect a poultry production facility last week.
The visit took place as a part of the Agricultural Cooperation and Training Program for East and West African Countries, jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency, or TIKA.
Senior officials from the ministries of countries struggling to fight hunger and poverty, such as Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Comoros and Tasmania, visited the production facilities of Banvit, Bupiliç and Şeker Piliç in Balıkesir -- the leading province for poultry production.
The commission members said they feel a connection with Turkey as a Muslim country, which is why they choose to meet their poultry needs here. They added they were surprised to see such modern facilities.
Turkey cooperates with African countries in stockbreeding and agriculture, said Ruknettin Ceyhun, the head of the Agriculture Provincial Directorate of Balıkesir, informing the group of the latest developments and improvements in the agriculture and poultry sectors. Important programs have been created with the guest commission within this context, he said.
