Turkey to build dam to provide water for Cyprus
Turkey will build a dam on a river in the Mediterranean town of Mersin to carry fresh water to northern Cyprus through an 80-kilometer underwater pipeline. State Minister Kürşad Tüzmen said project design works will be finalized next year. "This project will be implemented to help Cyprus fight drought and carry out irrigated farming," Tüzmen said.

OIC secretary general to meet US envoy
Organization of the Islamic Conference, or OIC, Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoğlu will meet Sada Cumber, the U.S. special envoy to OIC, in Istanbul Friday, said a statement from the organization. Cumber is set to explain that the United States is friend of the Islamic world, and exert efforts to eliminate mutual misunderstandings, said the statement.

Turkey expects BTC pipeline operational 'in a few days'
Turkey expects to reopen the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, or BTC, "in a few days" after completing repairs to the fire-damaged conduit, Energy Minister Hilmi Güler yesterday said. "An intensive effort is underway ... Production will begin again in a few days if there are no problems," Güler said in televised remarks. The BTC line was shut on August 5 after a blast sparked a fire.

Foreign Minister attends NATO meeting
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan traveled to Brussels yesterday to attend an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers. Ministers will discuss recent developments in Georgia and reflect on regional stability and security, a statement from the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. It added Turkey would continue to contribute to efforts to reach peaceful solution.

Nabucco: survey shows strong demand for pipeline
A survey of potential customers showed the Nabucco pipeline's capacity would be overbooked from the first day it goes on-stream. “More than 100 percent overbooking from day one in 2013 shows huge demand for the provided Nabucco capacities on a strong growing gas market,” Nabucco managing director Reinhard Mitschek said in a statement yesterday.
