The number portability practice, which allows customers to keep their mobile phone numbers when switching operators, started in Turkey on Sunday.
The practice has been widely discussed in the industry as three leading GSM operators in Turkey; Turkcell, Avea and Vodafone, eye new customers who might not have been happy with their current operators.
At subscribers’ side, most mobile users think the system will make prices decline.
Under the new system, number transferring transactions will be finalized in maximum six days.
The number portability system, which is being worked on nearly six months, takes effect under the regulation prepared by the Telecommunication Board.
The board had earlier announced that the necessary database for the implementation was complete on May 9, 2008.
