Imams in Fethiye are given English lessons so they can provide information about Islam to tourists, under a project, "Language Education to Imams." The courses consist of 100 hours of lessons and in the first class, 25 imams, five of who were females participated.

English teacher praises dedication of imams
Teacher Hamza Yükselörs praised the dedication of the imams after the first lesson.

"I saw they were very motivated," said the teacher. "I believe they will start speaking English in a short amount of time."

The Imams were happy with the lessons as well. "There are many tourists who visit our district," said one imam.

"We are taking these courses to provide correct information to tourists who visit mosques and we will be able to tell them more about Islam." Five female imams were also happy to start learning a foreign language.

"I believe learning English will be good for me in my daily life," said one imam. "It will also contribute a lot to the way we talk to foreigners about our religion."
