ISTANBUL - The second phase of the Turkish football season starts today after two weeks, with three games in the Fortis Turkish Cup.
Beşiktaş welcomes Gaziantep Municipality, while looking to make a fresh start after ending last year on a low note. Mustafa Denizli’s side suffered three losses against the other top teams, Fenerbahçe, Ankaraspor and Galatasaray, in four weeks doing serious damage to its title bid.
Starting the campaign’s second half, Beşiktaş will be hoping to gain a boost of morale and form playing against the Bank Asya League One side. In its first two games in Group A, Beşiktaş collected six points and were only one goal behind leader Gaziantepspor. Beşiktaş will advance to the quarterfinals of the cup even if it manages only one point against Gaziantep Municipality, but it will of course be looking for more than that.
The game at the İnönü Stadium kicks off at 7 p.m.
On the other hand, Trabzonspor has less to play for, as the Black Sea side has little hope in the cup. With zero points in two games, Trabzon is likely to treat today’s game at Antalyaspor more like a friendly.
Also this afternoon is the Kayserispor-Malatyaspor game in Adana.
