ANKARA – Daily news with wires
The Kocaeli deputy for the opposition Republican People’s Party, or CHP, has submitted a parliamentary question for Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about quake survivors living in the city’s Iraq Arızlı Houses, reported the Anatolia news agency.
Quake survivors who had been living in the houses for some time have protested to the governor’s office, alleging that they were removed from their homes to make way for bureaucrats to be settled there.
The Iraq Arızlı Houses were built as permanent housing for those who survived the Aug. 17, 1999 earthquake.
“It is more appropriate to build a lodging for bureaucrats in another place in Kocaeli,” CHP deputy Hikmet Erenkaya said. “What is the reason for coveting the houses of quake survivors?”
