Four people were killed and 24 injured on Monday when members of two rival families fought in the Silopi district of the southeastern province of Şırnak.
The deaths were the result of a gunfight between members of two families who have clashed in the past. Kalashnikovs were apparently used in the clash, which took place in Silopi's Cudi neighborhood. Leyla Yavuz (35), Mehmet Dikmen (10), Hüseyin Kasımoğlu (28) and Orhan Edis (19), were pronounced dead at the scene. Twenty-four people were injured in the clash, including two children. Two of the injured were reported to be in serious condition. The injured were taken to hospitals in the neighboring provinces of Mardin, Diyarbakır and Elazığ. Gendarmerie and police teams have implemented heightened security measures at the scene where the clash took place and at the hospitals where the injured were taken.
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Şırnak Governor Ali Yerlikaya said five people linked with the incident have been arrested.
