With the arrival of cold weather from the Balkans, the first snow has fallen in the mountains of Turkey as experts warn citizens that temperatures are expected to be below the season’s average this year.
Turkish State Meteorology Service head Mehmet Çağlar said that while the temperatures in the West will be four to six degrees below normal, the western Black Sea and inner Aegean regions will be eight to ten degrees below normal.
Furthermore, temperature will decrease three to five degrees in the southwest, while they will drop by six to eight degrees in Central Anatolia. In other regions, no major changes are expected.
Snow fell in Erciyes, Ilgaz, the Toros Mountains, and in Kartkalkaya and Süphan for the first time Thursday. Heavy rain mixed with snow is expected Saturday in Kütahya, Bilecik, Bolu, Karabük and Kastamonu. Due to the coming cold weather and storms, Çağlar warned citizens to take precautions against flash floods and influenza.
